I'm going to try and keep a regular summary of in-game, common knowledge, events here. To give those who weren't able to attend an idea of what they missed.
October's game started as many do these days, slowly and quietly. The cobalds took a couple of the newer adventurers out with them looking for trouble. I am fairly certain these efforts are why we aren't harassed by things in-town. In fact is seems most creatures will actively avoid our town by at least a five minute walk... Not counting fay and elemental creatures repeatedly invited in. This expedition did have one casualty to resurrect after encountering what I am told are "wolves of the hunt".
Cygryl has been plagued by nightmares all month, it is possible that he was asleep for most of that time as he was still sleeping when seen that morning. He awoke with a startled yell and rambled incoherently. He does not appear to be under the effect of any magic or alchemy but all the same is certain this, whatever it is, will be dealt with when he finds "her". He believes there is a dark skinned woman, possibly an elf or maybe human, who is causing his psychic torment.
A military scout arrived to inform the Mayor and Kalendyl of the Dukes decision, if Kal were to accept, he would be appointed official ambassador to the Baracour below Whitestone. An honor to be sure but I can't help but feel I've put my head in a noose at the same time. Lucky Kal is now the point of contact for any relations with the Baracour kingdom. This can't possibly have any unforeseen consequences.
When Cygryl had gathered his wits about him he called forth an elemental named Bob, who identified itself as The Icon of Tyrra. Bob was... chaotic in his answers to questions but seemingly honestly wanted to help. To that end, in answer to a question about possible threats, Bob rifted off with Cygryl so he could see for himself. When Cygryl returned he was convinced there was a mass of undead marching on the town. Everyone geared up and we moved out to meet the threat.
We don't find any undead, let alone a mass. We did however find a rather nasty heart-eater, although no one in game knew what it was when we saw it. The fight was fairly nasty as one might expect, especially since no one seemed willing to trust anyone else to do their job. Healers couldn't run in to heal because they couldn't trust the fighter to cover them, fighters couldn't run in to fight because they didn't trust the healers to heal... I died trying to save Demassi, who died trying to save someone else... It was messy.
That afternoon the guild master of the Merchants Guild brought a wagon of goods and an offering of food for the town. It seems news traveled fast and the Merchants Guild wasted no time trying to get their goods into the new market. At least we ate well.
Afterword the Mayor, Kal, and the Merchant sat to talk about business and what goods the town needed while everyone else went looking for more trouble. Someone else will have to provide the details, but it looked like everyone else ended up in a good old fashioned fey game of Battle Chess. I do know that it was supposed to be a friendly competition; however, when one of the kobalds killing-blowed a fey combatant things got ugly. Like everyone showing up in the earth circle needing a story ugly.
I had a wonderful role-play discussing the logistics of moving raw goods through town and to the Baracour. I was at least able to negotiate a civic improvement to the town wall for an extremely reduced cost. The Ten Coin will provide laborers to reinforce the wall with stone provided by the Baracour, since the stone has already been quarried and doesn't need to be hauled cross-country we are getting quite the discount. Your tax gold hard at work folks.
While I finished up negotiations with the merchant guild our Mayor arranged for a member of the Order of the Thorn to provide adventurer group-combat training. Personally I don't think we got what we paid for. The trainer was chaotic and flippant and demeaning. While he did address some of the issues the town has in terms of tactics he dos little to noting to build up the needed level of trust in order to work cohesively as a unit. More training will probably be required, but I think we may want to go through the merchants guild for future training.
Otherwise a fairly uneventful day. No invading armies, no world shattering cataclysms, and gorgeous wether. Our town is feeling more like a real town.
