To my fellow players,
A group of the "newer" players and I have decided to respectfully branch out of the city of Shallowford. As you may notice, a new board titled "New Haven" is now available. This will be the beginnings of a new town lead by beginner larpers. The benefits of having a town on the outskirts of Shallowford will be tremendous:
Splitting the levels will ensure more "level-appropriate" gaming for both experienced and new players.
The "noobs" will have a place to learn the ropes, and the experienced players will have a place to continue to be awesome.
We will also be able to NPC for each other which will help the noobs learn and create better game-play and less down time for everybody.
In game, we can establish relations, trades, and potential allies as well as more storyline overall.
Above are only a few benefits listed as there are many great things to come from this decision. If there are any questions or concerns regarding this new town in or out of game please feel free to reach out to me, the beard, karel, haru or setekh as we are the new council members of New Haven.
Thank you all for being amazing and helping us learn the ways of nero larp as we make this transition.
EDIT: EVERYBODY IS WELCOME NO MATTER THEIR LEVEL, RACE, GENDER OR WHAT HAVE YOU. THIS IS A HAVEN AFTER ALL. NOBODY LEFT BEHIND

With maybe three exceptions most of our active characters are around level ten I think, I know I am. Last month was something of a special case.

And just so you know, in case you thought you had to, you don't need to start a new town to do these things. Not that I'm implying that you can't or shouldn't... well I am in game, but out of game whatever is the most fun. It is a game after all.

I would like to offer some perspective on this. as a higher level player I find it only slightly offensive that newer players feel that they need to split off and make their own town just to play. I am currently playing at a chapter (Atlanta) Where the APL is on average in the 30's. We have had brand new player who for this year alone have been under tenth level. I personally have taken two under my wing and taught them the basics of adventuring and even helped them out and mentored them. This feels very us vs. them in the way that this is being done and I want to make sure that in the future when I do return to play that im not going to be outcasted just based on my oop level. That is very bad sportsmanship if that is the case.

It is not meant to offend anyone and certainly not to be a segregation by any means. I believe newer players wouldnt mind having a different town to play in with people more their level in and out of game. A place where they dont have to be worried about a higher level player killing them in 2 hits, or a place where the group of experienced players who have known each other for years form a clique which is hard for newer players to infiltrate. That is all.

What happens when you all becomes those higher level player then? It all comes down to the fact that eventually you will come into your own selves, quickly too, because you are going to level up fast. Instead of worki g with and eventually joining those groups you have effectively segregated yourselves. What happens if some of the newer player are unable to come? Are the few that do just to sit in their town unable to do things because they are suppose to be in their own town? What about on the opposite end? Are veterens suppose to just not do anything then? Segregation on levels doesn't work and should not be a valid reason for any sort of seperation of players.

A valid question of which we have thought of. From my understausing, it takes years to become as high of a level as most of our comrades and when that day comes, we can always use our secondary characters ans start small again. If the day comes where we are big players, then the newcomers have a choice of what town to start in. Who doesnt like options? In not sure what your concern is for new players that don't show up and we do nothing? I can say that there will be a lot less downtime because we can be npc's for each other.
As a player of more experience, what would you suggest as an alternative?

I do see what she talks about. I mean Spike is a healer but boost the challenges quite a bit. Last game it did feel like the newbies were just there. I want them to have motivation to protect the town and further the story, but they don't know the history of Whitestone. It just felt like they got steam rolled. So I applaud them for trying this idea.

Being a new player isnt much unlike being a veteran who has to relocate. I am in the military so I dont always get to choose where i live. That being the case when i do move somewhere new I start out knowing NO ONE. So how do I integrate myself? How do i make myself that person that people want to say "hey he seems like he might be a good fit" or "well he is new here but he knows whats up?" That is by roleplay.
Even here in atlanta we have new players. The new players here did not prove their worth by their character cards or oop numbers. they proved themselves by solving puzzles no one else could, by disarming a trap because no one else had the skill at the time or by even being the person that solved a riddle or came up with a great idea. You can only go so far in NERO by swinging a stick or throwing packets. There are going to come times in mods where beating the monster up will do you no good.
Ill take myself for example, When i moved to here in panama city florida four years ago i had no idea what was going to happen my first time in atlanta. I went there for an event and knew all of one person. As everyone here can guess two people do not make a mod happen. So it was time to get out there and figure out what was going on. So i mingled for the first couple of hours trying to figure out the who's who of the area and who were the jerks so I could avoid them. It wasn't but an hour later that a weird glowing orb came into the tavern, one of the local nobles and i went up to it to investigate and it sucked up both in. We ended up in the Darkwood of the fea. We were immediately beset upon by an earth haunt. not knowing each other's skills she immediately got behind me and told me to just fight and she would heal me. not really having much of a choice i had to trust her and hope that it would end well. Luckily it did. We defeated the earth haunt and managed to solve a riddle to earn out way back to tyrra.
i made sure that she got back to the tavern safely and she introduced me to her court. I made nice, and chatted with them for a while garnering more information. From there i went over to the collection of papers on the board and learned that the next month was going to be a great festival honoring the passing of the king of their lands. I then at that point realized i knew nothing about the lands themself so i decided to do research on the entire history of not just tyrangel but all of the kingdom of evendarr. it was alot of reading but I gained a great understanding about how their inner working were just from talking to the people but also reading up on their past.
I know this seems like alot but bear with me i swear it all has a point. the next event i went too there was the 2013 national event. Kit ashley and others from vegas went to it. During the time a heir was announced during the introduction of the gathering. It was a woman named isabelle ormsby. most of the people applauded but because of what I had read I knew that couldn't be right. So i did so rechecking and I showed the noble from last time. She concurred but we needed more proof. I investigated into this for most of the event with the help of others from not only her court but others that knew I was headed in the right direction. Eventually that lead us to a mod that took us to a tower in ravenholdt where a man was being held prisoner. We got through the traps there (thanks to a new player btw) and recovered a stack of letters. among those was one that was addressed from isabell. It detailed her imprisoning the now dead man that knew the identity of the true heir of the throne of evendarr.
Armed with this i went to Lady Ami and she had it high horoscope to learn the mans name and we casted a spirit farewell. once we had the name of their heir and managed to locate him we had the proof we needed. to finally charge the traitor queen. after looking at the princes it turns out their dreams had been manipulated to making them truly believe she was the heir.
My point is that it seems like levels matter, they dont. For everything i did to get established in evendarr I didn't need em. Its your role play and positive attitudes towards each other in game that will determine if you will succeed or not. There are people in vegas who has been mentored by me because i wanted to help them as a veteran player and here is my best advice. if you dont like how a player is playing their PC. ignore them. Straight up just walk away. they will learn or they will change or they will leave. I know I dont like being disrespected or yelled at. If its one pc who is threatening me I just shake it off and surround myself with people who dont put up with it because I know what happened last game and I dont approve of how some of the higher level players did throw their weight around but not all of them are bad.
If you want proof that bringing people together from all levels and multiple chapters, even people who despise each other in game, let me know I have a FB page full of people cooperating from nearly three years during the last national plotline from the FB page I ran. Their levels rand from 10 to over 100. Levels didnt mean a damn thing Just what you could contribute in ideas and willingness to help.

New Haven is for EVERYONE. While it is started by new players everyone is welcome.
At this point the only way out is banishment for crimes heinous enough to warrant such punishment.
A town specifically designed for players of a specific level range could never flourish because sooner or later it would turn into a ghost town.
New Haven will be centered around trade and any craftsmenb merchants or customers are always welcome to visit or seek more permanent residence.
As the idea was delivered to us however it made sense that veteran players would likely stay on the path of their current story while New Haven would start it's own storyline parallel to that of Shallowford. No doubt these stories will overlap and may merge together.
This would allow plot to use players who are on down time as npc's for the other town and make battles that much more interesting and balanced.
The first subject we discussed after coming up with New Haven was the potential for diplomatic and trade relations with Shallowford. We expected players to make regular trips back and forth. What we did not expect was all this drama.
So again to reiterate: Everyone is welcome to visit or seek residence in New Haven.
